Medical Expenses

  • Hospital Bill Discounts: Many hospitals offer discounts based on income and family size. Always inquire about payment plans and cost reduction options directly with the hospital's billing department. Don't hesitate to ask about financial assistance programs they may have available.

  • Medicaid: This government program provides health insurance to low-income individuals and families. Eligibility requirements vary by state, so check your state's Medicaid website for details.

  • Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace: If you don't qualify for Medicaid, you may be eligible for subsidized health insurance through the ACA Marketplace (healthcare.gov). Subsidies are based on income and family size.

  • Prescription Assistance Programs: Many pharmaceutical companies offer patient assistance programs (PAPs) that provide medications at reduced cost or for free to those who qualify. Check the manufacturer's website for specific medications. Also, look into discount cards like GoodRx.

  • Local Clinics and Health Centers: Community health centers often provide affordable or sliding-scale healthcare services.

  • Lifeline Program: This government program offers discounts on phone and internet service for low-income consumers. You can find more information and eligibility requirements at https://www.lifelinesupport.org/ and https://www.fcc.gov/lifeline-consumers. This includes both wireless and landline service.

  • Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP): This FCC program helps eligible households pay for internet service. It can be combined with Lifeline for even greater savings. Check eligibility and participating providers at https://www.fcc.gov/acp.
