Augustine’s Confessions (St. Augustine)

Augustine lived about 300 years after Christ died. He is generally considered the best writer the church has ever known—and for good reason! His greatest book is called "Saint Augustine's Confessions." It was the first autobiography ever written and the only book I know of that was written to God and not to the reader. When you read it, you feel as though you are intruding into his most personal prayers. Augustine was a man who could connect the mind and heart in such a way that the reader is drawn to God himself, and not just to the subject matter. I highly recommend that you read his Confessions at least once in your lifetime, but make sure you buy a readable copy. I recommend Henry Chadwick’s translation.
